Bienvenidos a Barcelona

We arrived Thursday around 2:00PM.  A little mechanical delay out of Dublin, but not bad and our luggage arrived fully intact and in the correct terminal.  Customs and immigration were a breeze and we found a great cab driver who charged us less than expected and pointed out highlights on our drive to our hotel.

We checked-in Hotel Colon whose staff members rushed to carry our bags up the stairs and had a room ready for us early.  We have a perfect view of the Cathedral of Barcelona.

After getting cleaned up, we went walking to find a place to have lunch.  Tapas are definitely Spanish, just in case you had any doubt.  I don't think we've seen a restaurant yet, that doesn't advertise tapas,  paella and oddly enough, pizza.  Sarah's communication in Spanish is excellent, which everyone here seems to be grateful for even though they speak Catalan and most of the time English too (overachievers).

After a lunch of pizza and paella, bet you didn't see that one coming, we walked down to the marina to enjoy the view of the Mediterranean Sea.

To keep ourselves awake, we ventured back out visit the Cathedral.  It was spired in the 14th century gothic-style.  As we waited in line to enter, several young ladies (not men) were turned away because they were wearing shorts and strappy tank tops.  A entrepreneurial lady was selling scarves at a bargain rate so women could wrap it around their short shorts enabling them to meet the dress code.

Needless to say the cathedral was beautiful.

As we finish up this blog post there is a musician in the square outside our window who, unrealized by me, has played Grieg's "Morning" 4 times now.  Mom is quite peeved.  I've hidden the tomatoes to make sure we don't get kicked out before we see Sagrada Familia.

Until tomorrow...
